Kiwifruit profits are expected to drop by a third this season as the impact of Psa sets in.
The Ministry for Primary Industries has released a report into the financial impact of the virus.
It says profitability per orchard will fall to $44,000 before tax, down from $66,100 last season.
President of New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers Incorporated Neil Treblico says he hopes banks will continue to support growers.
"If growers are successful with the new Gold 3 variety, then the future for them is very bright. It's just that they'll have one or two years of no income and very poor liquidity that they have to negotiate first," he says.
Neil Treblico says it's still too early to predict how many orchards will be affected.
