The Ministry for Primary Industries is to review biosecurity efforts at Christchurch airport.
The ministry released its findings of a survey into biosecurity measures at three of the country’s international terminals.
The survey found customs at Christchurch Airport failed to detect some insect contaminations, and mistakenly some banned food items through following full luggage searches.
Eighty-seven per cent of full searches at Christchurch airport were found to be compliant, compared with 96 per cent and 100 per cent at Auckland and Wellington airports.
All three of the major international airports registered overall compliance rates of close to 100 per cent.
The Ministry’s head of biosecurity systems Roger Smith says while the lapses were cause for concern, he was happy with the near-perfect marks around the country.
