One of the largest shipments of live stock to leave a New Zealand port is getting ready to leave Timaru.
7,200 heifers will depart Prime Port Timaru either later today or tomorrow.
Australian based company Landmark Global Exports has arranged the shipment to China.
Prime Port Timaru chief executive Jeremy Boys says the 140 metre ship Dareen arrived into port last night.
The shipment is the size of nine South Canterbury dairy herds.
