The Education Review Office will no longer put decile ratings on its reports, saying they stereotype schools.
The decision today is aimed at changing the concept that a school's decile is equivalent to performance.
ERO chief review officer Dr Graham Stoop says there's been public confusion for some time as to what the decile rating actually means.
He says it's meant to be used to give the Ministry of Education information to base funding decisions on, it's not about the quality of education a school provides.
