Elton John to headline Peace One Day concert

By: BANG Showbiz | Entertainment News | Friday June 15 2012 9:45

Sir Elton John will headline the Peace One Day concert as part of the London 2012 Festival.

The 'Tiny Dancer' singer has been confirmed to perform at Wembley Arena on the last of three Peace Day concerts held on September 21 in support of the The Global Truce 2012 campaign for non-violence.

Actor Jude Law is producing the concert with Peace One Day's founder and filmmaker, Jeremy Gilley. The non-profit organisation aims to work towards the biggest reduction of global violence on a single day ever.

Elton - who recently performed at Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee concert - said: ''When Jeremy and Jude came to see me and told me about Peace One Day and the Global Truce 2012 campaign I had to get involved and support them.

''I am looking forward to seeing everyone on the 21st September at Wembley Arena!''

'Sherlock Holmes' star Jude added: ''I've been involved with Peace One Day for such a long time, and it's thrilling that Elton is performing at the Peace One Day Celebration on 21 September this year. It'll be a wonderful event.''

Elton is the first act to be announced, and his performance will mark the end of the London 2012 Festival.

Annie Lennox, Lenny Kravitz and Kasabian are among the musicians who have supported Peace One Day in the past.

Tickets go on sale on June 18.
