By: AAP | World News | Wednesday May 16 2012 5:27

French President Francois Hollande's plane has been struck by lightning minutes after he departed from Paris for Berlin, where he is awaited by German Chancellor Angela Merkel for talks, French television reports.

BFM TV reported that Hollande's Falcon jet was hit four minutes after take-off from Villacoublay airport west of Paris, forcing him to turn back and change plane.

He was airborne shortly afterwards and en route to Berlin, where he was now scheduled to arrive at 8.30pm local time.
