Sustainable development needs gender equality - Clark

By: Newstalk ZB staff | World News | Monday July 2 2012 9:10

Helen Clark says sustainable development can't be achieved without the full empowerment of women, enjoying totally equal rights.

CNN reports the head of the United Nations Development Programme was speaking in the wake of the Rio summit.

She says the greatest investment to be made in development is in women.

Ms Clark says that means women as farmers, women's education, health services for women, economic opportunities for women, and women's political participation.

She says women think inter-generationally about the future because they're the ones who have children.
