Money needed for TVNZ7 is a 'drop in the bucket'

By: Natasha Burling | Latest Political News | Wednesday May 16 2012 9:16

A group trying to save TVNZ7 says the money required to keep it going is a drop in the bucket.

Nearly 400 people have turned out at a public meeting in Auckland to show their support for TVNZ7, the first of a series of meetings being held across the country.

Funding for the station will run out next month.

Save TVNZ7 founder Myles Thomas says $16 million a year is very little compared to GDP and how much is spent on broadcasting.

He says it's nothing in international terms.

In Australia, SBS has opted to stump up another $200 million to establish another channel.
