A major wool contract will see more than 70 tonnes of Canterbury merino heading to Japan.
Wool trader H Dawson has struck a supply deal with Japanese clothing company Konaka.
It will see the Canterbury firm selling its wool at more than 25 per cent market value.
Wool will be shorn at two Canterbury high country stations starting next week.
Big Ben an Mt Arrowsmith station operator Philip Wareing says the deal is a huge boost for an industry that has languished in recent times.
