Fonterra's Darfield plant nears opening

By: Farming Show staff | Rural News |

Fonterra’s new processing factory near Darfield is in its final testing phase before it begins processing milk.

The site is already home to 60 new staff and will add an extra 50 in 2013 once it becomes fully operational.

More than six million litres of milk will be processed at the factory.

The dairy giant’s operations manager for Canterbury Richard Gray says more than 75 per cent of staff hired are from the Canterbury region.

Fonterra says the factory will open in the next few weeks.
