The man who revolutionised pregnancy testing in ewes has been honoured at last night’s inaugural Beef + Lamb New Zealand Sheep Awards in Invercargill.
Rowan Farmer took away the Silver Fern Farms Award for Innovation for his work in bringing sheep scanning to New Zealand.
Eight other awards were handed out on the night, including one to Dr Arthur Allison, who was honoured for his ground-breaking work in sheep genetics, and Smedley Station, which took out the Business Farm Trainer of the Year Award.
Awards organiser Russell Welsh says the awards were designed to give the industry a boost after what’s been a tough couple of seasons.
“It highlights best practice, and by default, that lifts all farmers,“ he says.
