Nelson residents urged to prepare for severe weather

By: Juliette Sivertsen | Upper South Island News | Friday August 31 2012 16:31

Nelson residents are being urged to clear leaves and other rubbish from stormwater grills ahead of heavy rain forecast over the weekend.

Nelson City Council says if sumps are blocked, rainwater can build up and add to the risk of flood damage.

Council staff are not able to check every stormwater drain in the city, so are calling on residents to help keep drains near their properties clear.

A severe weather watch has been for Nelson, Buller and Westland for Sunday and early Monday morning.
