Police have confirmed a badly burnt out vehicle found in Kaikoura contained the remains of a person's body.
Tasman Police Crime Manager Detective Inspector Geoff Jago says the investigation's now centred on establishing the cause of the fire and formally identifying the victim.
Locals believe it's a young Auckland surfer who had been living in his car and lighting candles at night.
